Duet Dahlia

  • Highlighted in sun, this bloom shows some complete red petals and others tipped in white.
  • This is a deep burgundy flower with white tips and stripes in a random pattern.
  • The flower sits in the lower left 3/4 of the frame with blue skies and ever greens in the back ground. The deep dark red lpetals have just a hint of white at the center.
  • Taken in a low light setting to enhance the deep red petals. This flower has more white to the center petals.
  • This flower has white petals near the center and the outer petals are solid dark red. The flowers and plants in the background are blurred.
  • Taken in a studio mode, the flowers are in focus, but everything in the background is blurred. This picture shows two blooms in the center of deep dark red with a few white petals in the center.
  • Lighted by the sun and with a striking blue sky backdrop, the deep burgundy tones of this flower, with only a touch of white tips at the center, is prominent.
  • These tubers are a pretty purple color and have a nice clean crown.

Duet Dahlias are never the same bloom. This variety is a vigorous bloomer with nice cutting stems. Each flower is a unique presentation and produces wide variation from asymmetrical white tips, nearly all burgundy, or each petal being lined with white. Even in color, the plant in certain temperatures makes a red but is burgundy in cooler temps. The plant is vigorous and produces purple colored tubers as well in the fall, although that color dissipates in storage.

Our friends at In The Trough Farms sent pictures of this variety as we often compare favorite flowers. We begged to get a few tubers and have been growing several plants ever since. They last in the vase for a while and have nice stems. The colors go with many different color schemes and the variation in the bloom adds a fun twist. The vigorous tuber production and bloom production make this plant a nice focal point in the garden, but also in the vase.

Note: While Duet is normally a dinner plate variety, the genetics of this tuber produce smaller flowers between 3 and 4 inches in size.
