  • Lady Liberty Dahlias are solid white big blooms.

Lady Liberty Dahlias produce big white formal blooms. They have sturdy stalks and each plant produces multiple flowers. The plants are somewhat vigorous and will crowd other nearby plants. All tubers grow significant heavy stalks with many laterals and big leaves. Here at our farm we love to pair this with Holly Hill Black Beauty and plant several tubers to make sure there is no shortage of blooms. Whites always work well in any bouquet and the size of this bloom makes it a flower to build a bouquet around. We also appreciate the nice tuber formation from this variety and often get 10-15 eyed tubers from each plant.

While many of the flowers we choose to grow are selected with an affinity for a name or a reminder of childhood memories and persons that are loved, Lady Liberty was initially purchased because of the shape of the bloom and the white color. After the first year we grew dahlias, in the 30 varieties chosen there was hardly any white or yellow colors. So as we expanded our dahlia patch, we looked for a big white bloom with lots of petals. Lady Liberty fit the bill and became a favorite for cut flowers. Certainly the big striking flower makes a statement in the garden as well as a cut flower. Even friends and family seem to like this bloom, as anyone who takes a tour of the garden and selects flowers to take home inevitably walks away with at least one or two Lady Liberty blooms.
