Doodlebug Dahlia
Deep coral tones can be expected from Doodlebug Dahlias. The plants are smaller and work well in borders. Each bloom is a small, vivid reminder of sunset hues on a cloudy night. These flowers photograph very similar to another variety we grow called Groovy. Doodlebug Dahlias have typical green leaves while Groovy has the dark green leaves known as black foliage. There are also subtle differences in the colors of the flowers. Doodlebug has a brighter more playful and youthful pink tone. Groovy has a deeper darker palette. Another thing we like about this compact plant is the cute round tubers it produces. The tubers are on the smaller size, but many are produced by each plant.
We welcomed a daughter to our family several years ago. As most families do, we came up with a number of nicknames for her. Doodlebug was one that we frequently used, so when we were perusing the Swan Island Dahlia Catalog to select our first 30 tubers, name alone necessitated we purchase a tuber. The density of the color and perky pink color have made it a favorite. Our daughter loves to cut blooms for her own little vase on her bedroom book shelf. As a typical young girl, she loves the bright pinks like Doodlebug.
