Gloriosa Dahlia

  • Looking up at three blooms that sit from lower left to upper right. The blooms are an orange color with red stripes.

Big vibrant blooms are the hallmark of the Gloriosa dahlia and she is glorious. As a two toned dahlia, this plant has the genetics that causes each bloom to be a little different. Although many of the blooms have the pattern in the photos above, they can throw a bloom almost solid orange or with big red patches. The blooms are a monster 6 inches or larger and very full. The stems were not as long as some other cultivars, but cutting deep and pinching laterals will get you the stem length for arrangements. The plant grows on a fuller form plant and benefits from pinching the central stem once there are 4-5 leaf nodes to support the plant.
