NOID Mignon Dahlia
This variety, of which we are unsure the name, is a variegated dahlia on which blooms can be solid red, red with a splash of white, or white with red edges. It is always open center, which is a Mignon version, meanings. Single row of petals and 2 pollen whorls at the center. Regardless, bees love this flower and are attracted to the garden. We’ve researched what this variety could be and the most likely option is Fire and Ice. It has a similar height and bloom size to Fire and Ice, along with the fact it has both red and white flowers. Many photos of that variety even have the petal that curls back towards the center. It does grow a good 4 feet tall, sometimes a little more and does benefit from staking. Tuber production has always been hefty and there have been plenty to share.
This was a variety we got from one of our first tuber trade with a local friend. I was trying out the open center form to see how I would like it. That’s when I learned a data junky like me can’t stand to have an unnamed variety and I am not a huge fan of the open centers. With space being limited, this one is on the list of those that might be pulled, but it’s hard to cut a variety that the bees love so much.
