Rawhide Dahlia
This bloom from a Rawhide Dahlia tuber was quite the surprise. Its astoundingly pretty with pink and yellow reminding us of a more refined version of Melody Allegro. Each petal looks outlined in bright pink and the petals move from a yellow to pink blush. We contacted the supplier we got the tuber from to ask about a mix up. We were told that this bloom occasionally forms and is a fuller presentation from the waterlily typical of Rawhide Dahlias. We could be more tickled pink because we think this one is a keeper. There are several blooms and the plant looks healthy and is blooming earlier than many other 90 day varieties.
Every year we look at blooms from other farms and we get the Swan Island catalog and drool with the best of dahlia growers. Some plants we have been looking at and wondering. Year after year we are attracted to a few dahlias. If the obsession remains for a few years, then we add the plant to our patch. This is how we got Cheers, and how we got Rawhide. As you know, we ended up with a tuber that produces a fuller bloom and we couldn’t me more pleased. It may not be true waterlily, but what a beauty.
