Today was a great day in the garden sharing gardening joy. Nichole got to share her flowers and meet some new friends, while spending a few hours surrounded by dahlias. There are always crazy ideas cooked up during sleepless nights like this website, the garden, the idea of sharing gardening knowledge. It can be intimidating. Having people over to tour your garden is down right nerve wracking.

Nichole is part of a local Facebook group called Clatsop County Dahlia Divas. One of the members suggested a garden tour and the idea took off. Today was the day where a handful of ladies came and walked Wildhorse Gardens. It was the moment we went public with the farm name, our love of these plants, and the fact that we have started this webpage with information about how the varieties in our garden grow on the Oregon coast.

It was so much fun, at least for us and we hope the sentiment was shared. We were able to see two local gardens and I think everyone walked away with at least one or two new varieties on their list of things to have for next year. The group brainstormed plans to do a tuber swap, a tuber separating party, and several people made lists of plants to acquire. There is so much joy in gardening, and maybe a little personal bliss. It was a pleasant afternoon shared in the company of people passionate about growing dahlias. Even the kids were impressed when the infamous librarian from their elementary school made and appearance and invited us over to see her dahlia patch.

A special thanks goes to Jessica of Gladys Garden Farm for spontaneously extending our afternoon and walking a dahlia patch with over 60 varieties blooming and several beautiful flowers to add to a bouquet.

If you are interested in seeing the flowers viewed by the group today, head over to the Blooms page where you will find links to the 38 varieties of tubers that we have created a page for so far. As more varieties bloom, we will update and add pages. You will find several pictures of each flower, general information and likely a story or two on how that variety came to be a regular in the dahlia patch. We hope you’ll share gardening joy too. Consider commenting below.

Cheers! and Happy Gardening!!
